Maui Culture

Although Hawaii is stereotyped to be mostly integrated with Polynesian people, in reality Maui is a host to every major race and over 50 ethnic groups. You can find any culture in Maui from Japanese, to Chinese, American, and Polynesian, In addition, to various religions. 60% of the people living on the island were born in Hawaii, 25% of the population living on Maui was born on the mainland, and 15% of the people on the island came from foreign countries

and decided to reside on Maui. Pidgin once the official language of Hawaii is now only spoken on the island of Niihau. Nowadays no matter were you go on the Island of Maui, English can be heard practically everywhere. Even though a mix of people live on the island, native-born Hawaiians respect and praise their tradition, and culture all throughout the Island of Maui.

Maui Shopping

Hawaii is known for its authentic shopping. From fresh pineapples, and coconuts, to great smelling leis, Maui is home to numerous shopping centers. Lahaina Cannery Mall, one of the many shopping areas on Maui, is the only fully enclosed air-conditioned mall on Maui. Built on 1987, the mall is home to over 50 shops that include, Crazy Shirts, Honolulu Surf Co., and Jeans Warehouse. Sit down and take a break from shopping while watching free

hula shows every Tuesday and Thursday starting at 7:30 pm. Enjoy a bite to eat at L& L Drive inn as you enjoy the art work, and cultural events that the mall has to offer. There is even a free kids hula show given at 1:00 pm every Saturday and Sunday. Shop till you drop, and bring back tons of gifts from paradise that will make your friends and family jealous all from the Lahaina.
