Getting Around Bali

Blue and brown vans called bemos operate as buses in Bali. Bemos have regular routes around the city, but none of the routes are written down. Asking locals which bus will take you where and where to catch the vans is probably your best bet on getting around Bali. Before boarding ask the driver how much you would expect to pay for the trip, since the drivers are secretive about the cost of the ride. IF you don’t ask the driver you might be stuck with a huge cost for a short trip, so ask in advance before boarding. Bemos are not air conditioned, but are the best way of getting around and getting to know the true Bali.

The Major Denpasar bus terminals:

  • Kreneng (to Batubulan, Sanur and the City)
  • Tegal (going to Kuta, Sanur, airport and Nusa Dua)
  • Ubung (all points north and west, including Java)
  • Batubulan (to north and east)
  • Singaraja (to Java and Denpasar)
