Seattle Weather
Seattle may have the reputation for being a rain-soaked city, but, according
to the University of Washington, its actual average amount of precipitation
is less than that of most Midwest and East Coast cities like New
York, Washington D.C. and Chicago. Still, the city experiences many
cloudy days (201 each year, compared to 71 clear days and 93 partly
cloudy days) and averages about 38 inches of rain each year. While
its winters are relatively mild, it sometimes receives snowfall
(usually it’s very infrequent as the Puget Sound moderates
the city’s temperature and the Olympic Mountains prevent many
storms from heading inland). For instance, the average temperature
in the winter months hovers close to 42 degrees, while its summer
months are around 65 degrees.
