San Francisco Shopping
|
|
San Francisco’s diverse
collection of stores and boutiques stand independently throughout
the city rather than in large shopping malls. Each neighborhood
offers its own shopping features, but here are some spots
not to be missed.
The most popular and highly-trafficked area, Union Square
is home to many large department stores and |
high-end specialty shops. Chinatown is a great place to buy knockoff
items like Gucci handbags and Prada wallets. Be sure to wander down
the side streets to discover the small, often one-person shops selling
original Chinese artwork, tea and herbs at reasonable prices. As one
may guess, the six blocks of upper Haight Street are populated with
dozens of little shops selling vintage and alternative clothing, furnishings,
incense and candles.
Bargain shoppers will enjoy the factory outlet stores in the SoMa
(South of Market Street) district, which include Esprit Outlet Store,
The North Face, and Burlington Coat Factory. Do not pass Jeremy’s
on South Park and 2nd Street without going in. You will find top
designer clothing and accessories, including shoes, at super low
prices.
Don’t forget that the city has an 8.25% sales tax on all
items.
