San Francisco Culture
|
|
The people of San Francisco
are an eclectic mix living in a city with a long history of
“anything-goes.” While San Francisco is a gay-friendly
city as a whole, lesbians and gays enjoy the festive Castro
Street. The city also celebrates every June with a Freedom
Day Parade and festivities. And neo-hippies and artists abound
in the Haight-Ashbury disctrict.
San Francisco is also credited with being about |
as close as one can get to Asia in the continental US in terms
of geography and culture and while their presence is felt throughout
the city, Chinatown still remains the foundation. And of course
in a city known for its high rent and close proximity to Silicon
Valley, San Francisco is chock full of millionaires and business
men looking to strike it rich.
Despite the mix of ethnicities and varying degrees of economic,
political, social and sexual preferences, San Franciscans revel
in this diversity and its neighborhoods still uphold the flavor
of many of these groups.
An insider’s tip, don’t refer to the city as “Frisco.”
Locals hate to have their beloved San Francisco reduced to a nickname
akin to Vegas. And keep in mind that visitors find the summer fog
more charming than the residents do.
