Are you on a family vacation? Do you want to wander around the
island to get to know the history of Puerto Rico a little bit better?
Then Fort San Cristobal is the place to visit. Like El Morro, Fort
San Cristobal is a huge fortress built in the Americas by Spain.
San Cristobal protected San Juan against attackers coming by land
as a partner to El Morro. One must see stop on your voyage through
the fortress is the Garita Del Diablo, the devils sentry box, one
of the oldest and most famous Puerto Rican legends. It is said that
the devil himself snatched away sentinels at this post at the edge
of the sea. The fort is known for its first shots during the Spanish-
American war in 1898. The fortress has a complex system of tunnels
and dry moats that connect the fortress to the outworks. Fort San
Cristobal will keep the kids busy, and adults entertained. This
is a must place to visit when on the Island of Puerto Rico.
