Museo De Arte De Ponce, is a museum that has the finest collection
of European and Latin American art in the Caribbean. Donated by
Luis A. Ferre, a former governor, to the people of Puerto Rico,
this museum has been called the Parthenon of the Caribbean. It’s
collections vary and among nearly 400 works on display you can find
paintings of Italian baroque, pre-Raphaelite, European, and Latin
American works. On display are some of the best works of the two
"old masters" of Puerto Rico, Francisco Oller and José
Campéche. The museum also contains a representative collection
of the works of the old masters of Europe, including Gainsborough,
Velázquez, Rubens, and Van Dyck. Many museums such as the
Whitney museum in New York and the Louvre in Paris have borrowed
pieces for the museums collection. If you want to experience a day
of art and culture, then Museo De Arte De Ponce is the place to
visit.
