Key West Weather
Your assumption might be that temperatures in the southernmost region of the
continental US would be a lot higher than in the nation’s
northern states. You would be wrong, of course. It’s a lot
to do with location. Key West is situated between the Atlantic Ocean
and the Gulf of Mexico. Its average daytime high temperature is
just under 82 degrees Fahrenheit. In the late evenings, the temperature
reaches its average low of 73 degrees Fahrenheit. There are basically
two seasons in Key West: winter and summer. Also known as “dry”
and “wet.” You can wear short sleeves in the winter
and expect to look up to see blue skies. Rain is rare. Summers,
still short sleeves, but expect brief daily showers. Because weather
systems move swiftly in the tropics, the showers are short and sweet,
providing sudden shade from the summer sun. Annual rainfall in Key
West, though consistent in the summers, is less than New York City,
Philadelphia and Boston. You were caught in a downpour? Clothes
dry rapidly here. It’s the tropics, after all.
