The Prince of Wales Museum of Western India was established to
commemorate the Crown Prince's visit to Bombay in 1905. The museum
includes collections of Tibetan art, Chinese porcelain, Mughal,
and Rajput miniatures. The attempt of the museums art section was
to develop its collection of Indian paintings so that it represents
the many different styles and phases of Indian history. Due to this
emphasize, the collections at the museum represent the evolution
of painting in India ranging between the 11th and 12th century.
In addition the museum also has some art work illustrating palm
leaf manuscripts of the early 19th century Pahari paintings. The
museum has a beautiful garden that is set in a crescent shaped piece
of land, which makes this museum a classy elegant place to spend
your afternoon at. The museum is a cultural and educational centre,
where learning and viewing come together as one and create fun for
the whole family.
