Bali Culture
|
|
Over 90% of the population in
Bali is of Hindu decent, with the minority being made of Muslims,
Buddhists, and Christians. With an estimated 20,000 temples
and shrines, Bali is known as the "Island of the Gods,"
and every village has at least one temple with buildings dedicated
to Vishnu, Brahma, and Shiva (the Creator, the Preserver, and
the Destroyer). The Balinese culture is very interesting with
many traditions and rites are fascinating. Tooth filing, a |
tradition that is held upon the maturation of an individual, is
when the front teeth are filed down smooth to differentiate humans
from animals. This type of rite can happen at any age, but most often
done to adolescents. The language of the Balinese people is both Indonesian
and Balinese. No worries, English is spoken throughout the entire
country, so if you get lost or need to ask a question there are plenty
of people you can ask for help.
